Are you looking for the best hostels in Stockholm? While there are many Stockholm hostels, not all of them are worth your money. We’re here to help you find the best Stockholm hostel for your travel needs!
Its extraordinarily beautiful setting on 14 islands and the stunningly warm northern light makes Stockholm a pearl among the other cities of the Scandinavian peninsula.
One of the characteristics of Nordic countries are high prices so without planning ahead your experience can easily turn into a pricey holiday when it comes to accommodations. Don’t worry though, with the following list of the best hostels in Stockholm you can still stay in the capital of Sweden on a budget and have some spare money for typical Swedish meatballs!
The best hostels in Stockholm have more to offer than just cheap dorm beds. The right hostel should feel like a cozy, secure, and comfortable little home away from home. The best hostels in Sweden should also offer its guests plenty of ways to meet other travelers, have a nice atmosphere, and pleasant and friendly staff. All of this is super important if you want to be social while traveling, of course.
A great Stockholm hostel is also clean, tidy, organized, run professionally, and mindful of the needs of it guests. Huge bonus if it has a nice kitchen to cook meals in which will save you tons on your budget.
With all of this in mind we put together a list of what we think are the best hostels in Stockholm. Enjoy!

Stockholm Hostels – City Backpackers Hostel
Hostels are generally high quality in Stockholm but City Backpackers offers tons of little extras that make it stand out from the crowd.
Located a mere 500 meters away from the central station and the bus terminal, this Stockholm hostel offers single, double and dorm rooms of different sizes. There are also three apartments/studios for up to 8 people with a private bathroom and kitchen. The hostel is kept very clean due to, among other things, their strict no shoes policy.
The rooms can only be entered using security codes and every dorm bed is equipped with a bedside lamp and a power outlet. With spacious lockers available for use in every room, the only thing you need to bring is a padlock and bed linen (or rent it at the reception, a trend we really dislike in hostels). Heated floors in the showers will make your stay even more comfortable together with free access to a sauna in the evening, especially in the winter!
City Backpackers Hostel is one of the best hostels in Stockholm for travelers and backpackers who want to meet people. The hostel’s amazing crew prepares special events every week, organizes tours, and arranges movie nights for guests throughout the year. The large kitchen has free coffee, tea and pasta, and the cozy lounge and courtyard are great paces for socializing within this Stockholm hostel.
You can also rent a pair of ice skates or a saucer sleigh for free to fully enjoy the Nordic winter! That’s pretty awesome, and it all adds up to make City Backpackers one of the best hostels in Stockholm.

Best Hostels in Stockholm – Skanstulls Hostel
Skanstulls Hostel is located in Sofo, the cultural centre of Stockholm with many galleries, original bars and music events. The area is culturally very diverse which makes it the best place to be for foreign travelers!
One of the renovated metro stations, Skanstull, is few steps away from the hostel, and the Old City is only a short walk away. The influence of the location is clearly visible by the hostel’s design, which creates a unique and cozy atmosphere and makes it one of the best hostels in Stockholm.
One of this Stockholm hostel’s greatest traits is the spacious, funky and fully equipped kitchen. Plenty of seating space is available, and you can help yourself to free coffee, tea, and pasta throughout the day. This is a great place to meet other travelers, play games, exchange books from their library, and, of course, eat. Guests who are not fans of cooking have the option of ordering breakfast for 75 SEK from the reception.
The hostel offers both privates and dorm rooms, all furnished with original decor. Every bed comes with a bedside lamp and there are security lockers and plenty of power plugs around the rooms. Bed linens are not included in the price but can be rented at the reception as well. (Booooo.)
Relatively strong Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel, but we recommend you use it as sparingly as possible. Explore Stockholm or talk to your fellow travelers and leave that phone in your pocket!
Aside from the minor linen quibble this is definitely one of the best hostels in Stockholm.

Best Hostels in Stockholm – Generator Stockholm
Generator is a chain of large hostels, but what they lack in intimacy they make up for in service, know-how, and scope. And this particular Generator is definitely one of the best hostels in Stockholm, one glaring weakness aside.
Generator Stockholm takes pride in its location in the chic neighborhood of Torsgatan, which is just a five minute walk from the Central station. The hostel staff is friendly and welcomes guests around the clock.
The Nordic spirit can be seen in the beautiful yet simple design of the rooms and spacious social areas. Multiple common areas give travelers many options for hanging out within the hostel. There is the ground floor chill-out lounge, the on-site restaurant, or a bar where you can have drinks and meals with the typical Nordic twist.
The only thing you won’t find in this Stockholm hostel is a kitchen for guest use, which is a shame in this day and age. We understand the desire to make money off of your restaurant, but giving travelers the option to make their own meals should be a world wide hostel standard.
Rooms in this Stockholm hostel range from singles to spacious and modern six person dorms. All rooms have security lockers for guest use.
As a nice addition there is a hostel travel shop with unique Generator souvenirs – perfect for travelers with no time to spare for souvenir hunting who want something special to bring home! All the above, excluding the lack of kitchen, make Generator one of the best large hostels in Stockholm.

Best Hostels in Stockholm – Castanea Old Town Hostel
While you are wandering through the streets of Gamla Stan, you will definitely bump into a big chestnut tree, guarding a small historical building from 18th century. The tree offers its name to a small eco-friendly hostel that is hidden inside.
The location is more than perfect right in the center of all the sights, which makes this Stockholm hostel the best choice for anyone who wants to explore the city on foot. The location also adds to the cozy atmosphere of the hostel, which makes it somehow homey and personal.
Castanea Old Town Hostel is more of a home away from home (though no bed linens again!) hostel rather than a crazy party place, and travelers can hang out in the common room or kitchen.
The variety of the rooms is wide, from singles to dorms with 16 beds. Unfortunately the bathrooms are shared for all rooms.
So if location and a cozy eco-friendly atmosphere is your priority and you don’t want to leave Stockholm with empty pockets, Castanea Old Town Hostel is a great option for you!

Best Hostels in Stockholm – Stockholm Hostel
Don’t let the uninspiring generic name put you off. Stockholm Hostel is one of the best hostels in, well, Stockholm. Stockholm Hostel gets super bonus points for being extraordinarily clean, modern, and located within walking distance from the Central station.
The hostel offers 33 rooms, each with two to six beds. All the rooms are en-suite and are equipped with a flat screen TV. Apart from that, the bed linen and towels are included, which is a convenient exception in Stockholm.

Best Hostels in Stockholm – Jumbo Stay
Yes, the image above is real. You can sleep in a jumbo jet while visiting Stockholm if you are so inclined. Yay?
Going to the cockpit of a plane and seeing how all the controls work is probably every little kid’s dream. In Jumbo Stay this (dubious) dream can come true. What’s more, you can take that childhood dream of yours to a ridiculous level by actually sleeping in the cockpit of this converted jumbo jet turned hotel.
Jumbo Stay is located just 6 minutes away from Arlanda Airport in Stockholm. This makes it a perfectly quirky place to stay if you’re catching an early flight.
So if for some crazy reason you want to sleep on an airplane right before you go to sleep in another airplane, you should totally book a night in this weird Stockholm hostel.
