Brunch might be stereotypically American, but let’s be real: it’s become a universal concept. No matter where we are in the world, we’re always in search of the best brunch. Whether it’s giving you life after a night out or giving you fuel for a full day of exploring, brunch can be whatever you want (or need) it to be.

Barcelona, Spain, may be known for paella and tapas, but you need not fret. Brunch lovers can rest assured that there are plenty of delicious options in this vibrant Spanish city; you just have to know where to look. That’s why we’ve found the best breakfasts and brunches in Barcelona for you.

Best Breakfast and Brunch in Barcelona 

Alrighty hungry brunchers, let’s explore the best spots in BCN. Whether you need to get rid of that hangover, or just want your fill of eggs, avocado, and mimosa here’s where you should be going. 

The Benedict Brunch Barcelona

Located in the Gothic Quarter, The Benedict Brunch Barcelona has been a brunch favorite since it first opened in 2013. Run by two siblings with a passion for food, this restaurant’s menu features over 30 dishes infused with British and Latin flavors.

Choose from several types of eggs benedict, a full English breakfast, huevos rancheros, and a variety of omelets. You’ll also find brunch burgers, salads, pancakes, classic Spanish appetizers (patatas bravas, anyone?), and acai bowls. To wash it all down, try one of their power smoothies or fruit mimosas.

This chain with 5 locations is known by locals and expats alike as having some of the best brunch in Barcelona. With options including pancakes, omelets, English breakfast, shakshuka, and more, you’ll need to go back again and again to try it all. A local favorite is the avocado toast with an added poached egg.

Billy Brunch also provides some lunch items with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options mixed in. Pair your breakfast with a coffee or a detox juice, or indulge in one of their breakfast cocktails.

If this place strikes your fancy, get there early. They don’t take reservations and the line gets pretty long.

Eat My Trip

Another chain with 3 locations across Barcelona, Eat My Trip is known for its creative menu items. Try the Thai eggs benedict with panang curry sauce and carrot hummus. They also have items like the Hot Latin Lover featuring 3 make-your-own quesadillas, an Alps Brunch with truffle roasted potatoes, and a Korean sweet potato with kimchi and rice.

Those with more traditional taste buds can enjoy classics like Turkish eggs, pancakes, superfood bowls, and different types of french toast. Wash it all down with a coffee or a smoothie. They also offer bottomless mimosas and bottomless Aperol spritzes.

Picnic

This casual brunch restaurant near Ciutadella Park has gotten rave reviews from locals and tourists alike. Owned by an American and a Chilean, you’ll find some unique and tasty brunch dishes here.

The fried green tomatoes with feta and salsa are a crowd favorite, or you can try the quinoa hash browns. Pulled pork chilaquiles with guacamole and a poached egg stand out on the menu. Of course, you’ll also find classics like eggs benedict, pancakes, cereals, and more.

For drinks, choose from juices, iced coffee with Bailey’s, lemonades, and more.

Lato Cafe

This cafe near Casa Mila serves brunch with an Ecuadorian twist. They call it “Andean Fusion”, and plantains and sweet potatoes play a starring role. You’ll find classics like eggs benedict, toasts, and scrambles, of course, but there are also plenty of items you won’t see anywhere else in Barcelona.

Try the Lato Sandwich, featuring porchetta with tamarind sauce served on waffles as buns. The Chimborazo, another Andean favorite, is pulled beef served in criolla sauce. Or, try one of the six ceviche options, including a vegan one.

Pair your meal with juice, coffee, or a breakfast cocktail. If you want to stick to the Andean theme, we recommend the Pisco Sour.

Morgentau

This brunch place in Poblenou is completely vegan. This farm-to-table restaurant focuses on sustainability and healthy eating, and they’re known locally for their generous portions.

Their breakfast menu consists of pancake varieties, french toast, acai bowls, and an omelet made of quinoa flour and spinach. You can also enjoy a tofu scramble, shakshuka made with tofu “eggs”, their own twist on avocado toast, and a bean burger. Indulge in fair trade coffee or organic tea for a caffeine fix.

They also have a selection of kombucha, craft beer, wine, lemonades, and smoothies for you to choose from.

Little Fern

Located in Poblenou, this laid-back restaurant serves plant-based New Zealand-inspired brunch dishes. You’ll find classics like granola bowls, Turkish eggs, avo toast, and an egg scramble with house salsa.

But if you want to try a taste of New Zealand, order The Fritters. These sweet corn and zucchini fritters are served with mashed avocado, pico de gallo, and tzatziki sauce. The kimchi pancakes are another local favorite. They also have plenty of sweet treats like banana bread and cakes.

For drinks, you can choose between coffee, beer, cider, breakfast cocktails, juices, and smoothies.

Nolita

This brunch place serves NYC-inspired breakfast dishes in the heart of Barcelona. The menu focuses mainly on varieties of the classics, so you’ll find plenty of types of eggs benedict as well as pancakes, french toast, and avocado toast.

You can choose to indulge in the huevos rancheros or the vegetarian huevos granjeros with goat cheese, mushrooms, and asparagus. There’s also a vegan brunch option with sweet potato and vegan sausage. Not in the mood for brunch? Try the burger or a sandwich.

Nolita also serves breakfast cocktails like mimosas and bellinis by the jug, or you can choose a refreshing juice or lemonade.

Brunch & Cake

This brunch chain has 3 locations across Barcelona, so you can easily get there no matter where you’re located. Brunch & Cake focuses on local ingredients, so your meal is sure to be fresh and delicious.

They serve a variety of eggs benedict options, potato scrambled eggs with Iberian ham, and bagel sandwiches. They’re especially known for their artistic twist on the avocado toast, so be sure to try it for yourself. You’ll also find sweet breakfasts like pancakes and cinnamon rolls.

As for drinks, enjoy a superfood smoothie or one of their excellent organic coffee options.

Copasetic

Located in Eixample, this restaurant is known to be well-balanced, delicious, and affordable, making it one of the best brunch places in Barcelona. Brunch is served weekdays until 2 pm and weekends until 4 pm.

The menu features classic dishes like a full brunch plate with eggs, mushrooms, spinach, and tomatoes, and a full English or French brunch. You’ll also find more unique options like Greek brunch, baked kale eggs drizzled with tahini, and maritsa eggs with sriracha and green peppers. You’ll also find plenty of pancakes (both sweet and savory) and burgers.

Wash it all down with a cappuccino freddo or a cocktail.

El Arbol

This breakfast and brunch restaurant in Barcelona is just steps from the Arc de Triomf. Known for their laid-back atmosphere and delicious food, this is one of the best brunch places in Barcelona.

You can choose from a variety of egg scrambles and eggs benedicts. You can also try the bagel sandwiches (or regular sandwiches, if you please), or choose something sweet like the breakfast bowls or pancakes. They also have plenty of coffee, juices, and breakfast cocktails for you to enjoy with your meal.

La Desayuneria

This American inspired restaurant has two locations that serve breakfast all day long. If you’re looking for a cheap, classic American diner-style meal, this is the best brunch place in Barcelona for you.

They have plenty of options for authentic American breakfasts, including New York bagels, Pacific coast brioche french toast, and Amish breakfast featuring sausage and gravy. You’ll also find plenty of pancake varieties, including the classic silver dollar and other sweet versions inspired by Spanish food. Or, make your own egg or omelet dish or indulge in one of the vegan options. They also serve breakfast cocktails by the liter, so you’re sure not to go thirsty.
