If you’re looking for some outdoor adventure action head out on a whitewater rafting tour on the Snake River.  This is one of the best ways to explore the greenery along the mountain landscape from atop the water.

The rapids can be challenging but are suitable for all ages and levels. The scenery along your journey and the thrill the rapids provide are the perfect outdoor activity.

This is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Idaho Falls, so you have to experience it for yourself.

Art Museum of Eastern Idaho

This contemporary art museum has been a cultural hub of Idaho Falls for more than a decade. That’s why this is one of the best things to do in Idaho Falls.

Featuring work from local, national, and up-and-coming artists, the museum houses five galleries along with a children’s space. The museum also regularly hosts classes and workshops that you can attend if you’re looking to expand your artistic skills.

You can either browse this museum on your own or take a guided tour.

Melaleuca Field

If you’re in town during baseball season, a visit to Melaleuca Field is in order.

Home to the Minor League Idaho Falls Chukars, this is the only professional sports organization in eastern Idaho. As a result, you can imagine how passionate and loyal the fans are, making for an exciting game-time atmosphere.

The stadium can host up to 3500 people and also includes eight luxury boxes and a hot tub.

Join in on the madness and attend a game while you’re in town – it’s truly a cultural must.

Idaho Falls River Walk & Greenbelt

One of the best free things to do in Idaho Falls, you have to visit the River Walk and Greenbelt.

This trail spans about five miles along the border of Snake River and connects many of the city’s major attractions. In fact, you’ll find the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho along the River Walk.

Well-kept and famous for its riverfront views, the trail is used by cyclists, runners, and commuters alike. Whether you want some exercise or just a leisurely stroll along the water, the River Walk & Greenbelt is a must-visit.

Hell’s Half Acre Lava Field

One of Idaho’s top natural wonders, this lava field on the Snake River Plain is 25 minutes outside of town.

It’s the second-biggest lava field you’ll find on the Snake River Plain, and the closest one to the city.

This 2000-year-old National Natural Landmark is popular with hikers, as there are 2 marked trails along the jagged lava rocks.

One of the hiking trails will take about 30 minutes while the other will take a full day. The full-day trail will take you all the way to the volcanic vent where the lava erupted 2000 years ago.

Whether you decide to hike or not, this natural wonder will captivate each visitor.

Idaho Falls is just a 2-hour drive from Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. If you’re looking for day trips, this is the perfect place to go.

Grand Teton National Park is home to some of the country’s most incredible scenery, including Signal Mountain and Jenny Lake.

You can explore the park in your car, on a bike, or on a hike.

Check out the Grand Teton National Park: 4-Hour Wildlife Safari Adventure for the best opportunity to spot native wildlife.

Idaho Brewing Company

After all, that exploring and hiking, it’s time to sit back and enjoy a craft beer.

Famous across the entire eastern part of Idaho, Idaho Brewing Company boasts award-winning craft lagers and ales.

The tasting room overlooks the Snake River and is frequented by locals and tourists alike. With both indoor and outdoor seating, this is the perfect activity for all seasons.

Idaho Brewing Company has 12 beers on tap, 8 of which are year-round. So, there’s something for every kind of beer lover here.

If you’d like to learn more, you can take a guided tour of the brewery’s facilities.

Japanese Friendship Garden

You may not know this, but Idaho Falls has a sister city: Tokai-Mura, Japan.

To celebrate this sisterhood, the Japanese Friendship Garden was built on a small island in the middle of Snake River. To reach the garden, you can use the footbridges that connect the island to both sides of the river.

The Friendship Garden now contains a traditional Japanese stone lantern donated by Tokai-Mura along with a traditional Japanese pavilion. The space embodies Japanese gardening and architectural techniques and serves as a peaceful getaway in the middle of the city.

The garden itself is free, but there are a few viewing platforms that you need to pay to access.

Tautphaus Park

One of the oldest and biggest parks in Idaho Falls, Tautphaus Park is home to some of the most-visited attractions.

Featuring baseball diamonds, sheltered picnic areas, and tons of green space, this is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon.

The park also boasts a skatepark, an ice rink during the winter, a children’s playground, and more.

Funland Amusement Park is also located here, which is home to waterslides and several carnival rides.

Collectors’ Corner Museum

This is one of the most unique museums you will ever visit.

Owned by a couple that’s been married for over 50 years, this museum displays their collection of keepsakes and memorabilia.

With over 1000 items on display, the museum keeps adding to its collection via personal donations from the public. The items on display range from Barbie dolls and stuffed animals to vintage coins and stamps and everything in between.

You’ll be shocked at what you find in the glass cases and pullout drawers as you wander through the building. Be prepared for waves of nostalgia!

Eagle Rock Fountain

Eagle Rock Fountain, also known as Giant Eagle Waterfall Nest, is one of the biggest eagle monuments in the US.

Easily accessible from the River Walk, it was unveiled in 2006. It’s been a proud piece of Idaho Falls’ identity ever since. The artist, Vic Payne, has been praised for the incredible detail present in the piece. Locals say it truly captures the spirit of the city – a difficult feat.

The bronze fountain stands 26 feet tall atop a bed of quarried rocks and is certainly worth a photo op.
